The Emotion and Energy of Fear

I have been taking some Qigong classes as a means of learning more about subtle energy and how it works.  As part of these classes, we give Qigong treatments to help others in their quest to become as healthy and balanced as they can be.

I had an interesting experience while giving a Qigong medical treatment to a man who had a great deal of financial stress and insecurity in his life. This man was anxious to find new career opportunities to help relieve his financial problems, but was unhappy and tired of working in his current vocation.  He wanted to switch to working in a job where he could feel passionate, but was torn with the possibility of having no income or a loss of income.  As a result, he was filled with fear, anxiety, and seemed paralyzed and unable to make decisions.  He was VERY unhappy.

During a Qigong treatment, most patients will close their eyes and relax while they lay on a massage table during the Qigong session, but he did not.  He chatted away during the treatment and asked questions with the anticipation and hope the energy flow would bring him insight and new answers.

For me, as the practitioner, this was an interesting experience to have him be animated and chatty during a Qigong treatment.  For example, while I worked on his third chakra (which is the one most associated with emotions located in the solar plexus),  I could feel this chakra get hotter and hotter.  I asked him to relax, which he did, and his chakra and abdomen resumed to a normal temperature. After a few minutes, however, he would return to an anxious state of being and almost immediately his third chakra became VERY HOT.  It was difficult for him to remain calm and each time his anxiety escalated, the heat returned and I ended up needing to “purge” this additional flame of energy in his abdomen.

By the end of the Qigong treatment, I was satisfied with his treatment and could see a calming difference within him, but I could also see he was very used to being consumed with fear and angst.  This emotion had become a part of who he was.  It was a behavior that helped define him and had become a signature of acceptance throughout his 40 some-odd years of life on the planet.

I knew he would require much more Qigong than just one session to conquer his learned responses but then in a flash, I could see one of his past lives.  In THAT past life, I could see he had been a very powerful person, like a magistrate, and used his power like a weapon.  He dispensed fear in that lifetime and affected many people.   In this instant, I could see the contrast happening in this lifetime.  In this life experience, he had very little power.  This existence was a total contrast to his magistrate lifetime experience.

Now I could see a new layer of his personality.  This behavior and personality trait was part of his chosen life path.  In this life path he was learning about what it is like to feel powerless and living in fear.

Because in that flash of seeing his former incarnation, I now could recognized and see how this Qigong treatment was just going to be a temporary moment to help his energy flow and not really help him in a more perpetual state of balance.  I could see that he would first need to experience everything he needed that was in contrast to his former life.  This was part of his planned life lesson and it could be part of his entire life.  He could be in this situation for many years or until he learned and experienced what he came here to learn.

Qigong can be a very powerful tool to help the body get back into balance, but there can be limitations.  The individual will need to accept the gift of energy being given if they want it to be more long lasting and affective. But sometimes the inability to accept and honor the gift is based on something we don't always see.  Sometimes the limitation is based on the life lessons the person is still learning, and if that is the case, there isn't much more the gift giver can do.
