It was summer, hot, and there was no trail. We had a canteen of water but not much of anything else. On this hike, my partner would occasionally pause and make a rock cairn to mark our path as we walked through the valley below the bluff where our jeep was parked. This was wilderness country; NO trails, no roads, nothing.
John UK had said it would be a couple of miles to get to this earth energy location. We anticipated an easy walk, but after walking through lots of rock and brush, I was getting frustrated. I did not see anything that looked like what I expected and was also not feeling a change of energy, so we stopped and did a meditation. During the meditation experience, I fell asleep. I just conked out. When I woke up my head was being cradled in the lap of my partner. I asked him how long I had been asleep. He didn't know. I asked if anything he happened. He didn't know that, either. He had been very patient waiting for me to finish my nap.
It was now early evening and we clearly needed to get back to the car and get home. I was anxious and disappointed. I was also mad at myself for falling asleep.
We gathered our things together and started walking back through all that brush. We had several miles to go and the sun was starting to set. We didn’t have any more water, had no jackets, no flashlights. We were so unprepared. What had started as a quick day hike was now turning into an unexpected adventure.
I followed behind my partner and I noticed how different he was. I was silently freaking out and very scared, but he was calm, confident, and very assured. My partner's emotions were one of composure, confidence, and focused. Every once in awhile he would stop, look around, almost as if he was feeling his way through this unmarked journey. He had a countenance I had never seen or felt before. I suddenly felt complete trust in him and knew he would get us out safely. He was projecting something new and different. He had become that "place of quiet stillness and calm."
We silently forged ahead and every once in awhile we would pass by one of the cairns that he had set up. I had no idea how he had even seen the cairns in the dark, but he had. He then said "look up, you can see the reflector of our jeep” and indeed I could. We had made it back.
I anticipated locating an earth energy site with the expectation we would have an incredible spiritual experience at this site. What I received instead was the gift of feeling the strength and assurance coming from another human being. I had never experienced such an intense feeling of calmness coming from someone before. THIS was the spiritual experience. It wasn't meeting or interacting with people from the astral plane. The spiritual experience was witnessing how someone transformed and was able to feel their way home, almost as if they were guided by an unseen force.
Spiritual experiences are often not what we expect. Sometimes they are just feelings that somehow seem to leave a mark on your soul. For me, this was one of those spiritual moments and markers.
