Different Energy Layers Within the Body

I am taking a Qigong energy class and part of this class includes meditation as a way of directing Qi energy.

The instructor had us sit in a chair and asked us to close our eyes and visualize the upper, middle, and lower Dantien in the body (head, chest, abdomen).  He then asked us to focus our thoughts on creating a red ball of energy in the lower Dantien.  In the lower Dantien, we would visualize a red ball of energy and squeeze it to make it smaller and more compact with energy.  As we did this, we were supposed to visualize the red ball becoming hotter, and hotter, and hotter.  We would then relax our focus and then visualize the ball expanding back to the original size and filling our lower Dantien.  Then once again, we would visualize the red ball getting smaller, more compact, and hotter.  We would repeat this process over and over again until the red ball became very hot; like fire.

The exercise is used to help a person learn to focus during a meditation and see how the mind can be used to guide the meditation, the Qi, and then transform energy to a physical sensation and result; heat.

I have meditated for years and have used the basic meditation technique I was originally taught, which includes grounding with the earth and then going through each of the chakras one by one to energize them.  But in this guided meditation, we jumped right into the visualization of a red ball of energy.

This visualization should have been easy for me, but for some reason I kept stumbling on my chakras.  I kept seeing my chakras get in the way of this red ball of energy.  It was frustrating.   I had to figure out what to do with my first, second and third chakra in this meditation exercise.

So in my mind, I stepped away to view my body so I could see what to do with my chakras so they would not get in the way.  As I did this, I could now see how the chakras were in my very inner most layer of my body's energy field.  I could also see there was another energy field, so I peeked in this field and saw the energetic layer of my organs were housed in the layer.  I could see this was the energetic level of my organs; the ones used in healing directing energy for treatments and health.

I then peeked into the next layer and it was here I could see where the Qi transformation takes place.

“Ahhh,” I thought.  "So this is the layer I need to be working for this exercise."

I then was able to re-begin this meditation exercise and now could easily visualize the red ball of energy expanding, contracting, and creating energy and heat because now I was in the right energy layer of the body.

One of the outcomes of this meditation exercise was becoming more aware of the different energy fields and layers inside the body and how the different energy layers have different purposes and functions.
